e pluribus haiku anthology: 3487 haiku

Available by paperback on Amazon: $5.99 + shipping
Available on Kindle $4.99
Available on Kindle Unlimited

This volume combines all the haiku from e pluribus haiku 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, and the original, e pluribus haiku (2011). The 3487 refers to number of haiku, not kind, as they are all 5-7-5, given a somewhat unique style. This single volume will ultimately replace the others, as it contains everything that is in each of them, with an updated style.

Page-read exchange

I have 23 publications - 9 collections of short stories, lots of haiku, family-related non-fiction, Quaker plays. I am a voracious reader and thinking of switching genres to novels, biography, or non-fiction. But I will read virtually anything and read it carefully. I will not criticize if you have thin skin.

But here's the deal - you can add up the pages of what you want to read, until we are reading equal amounts for each other. Just download and read. Everything I have is on Kindle Unlimited. If you have Kindle Unlimited (I do), we're in business. You can go here to see an overview. But also I can just tell you:

Short stories: Five Second Rule (84 pp.), Hands Off that Pear (134 pp.), Free Range Flash Fiction (82 pp.), Mannequin Challenge (138 pp.), Comin' Round to Lovin' It (136 pp.), Do Unto (106 pp.), A Dozen Crime Stories (72 pp.), Pile of Leaves (94 pp.), Unloading (36 pp.).

Haiku: Epiphany Coup Haiku (24 pp.), All from before is obsolete (26 pp.), Boxcars on Walnut (26 pp.), e pluribus haiku 2018 (102 pp.), E pluribus haiku 2017 (118 pp.), e pluribus haiku 2016 (88 pp.), e pluribus haiku 2015 (84 pp.), e pluribus haiku 2014 (96 pp.), e pluribus haiku 2013 (36 pp.), e pluribus haiku 2012 (54 pp.), and e pluribus haiku (the original)(107 pp.)

Quaker plays: read drama? Quaker Plays for First Days (173 pp.)

Family-related non-fiction: 18th Century Leveretts (247 pp.), Puritan Leveretts (166 pp.).

I am busy; I have ten children and am writing more book. But you add up what you'll read so it's roughly equal to what I'll read, and let's do it. Email me at leverett@siu.edu. Thanks!

Being a writer

This is a site that I want to develop, but I'm not really sure what to do with it. Somehow I picture my old students coming here, knowing it has good writing that is entertaining and esl-oriented - not too dense or culturally laden with difficult reference. As a writer, I kind of got away from that simple Hemingway style, and unfortunately I haven't been able to get it back.

I got a Kindle for Christmas, and I started by reading my own books. I was dismayed at some typos and inconsistencies which I will set about to correct. Even now I am a writer full-time but I also do my own publicity which is extensive, and which comes down mostly to blogs like this since nobody cares about twitter. But this blog, I haven't really done much with. It still has very old ads in the template. I try to put good stories on it once in a while, but I've kind of failed at that too.

So my New Year's Resolution is to make this one a little better. I'm a writer, I'm moving into a writer's consciousness (having retired from the 9-to-5 world), and I sit here, late at night, thinking, how can I make things better. The place to start is right here. Bear with me. I'll make this a pleasant place to visit.

OK, so I admit it - I've been in a little bit of a funk as a writer. It's partly because of the tepid response to my two new sets of stories (see below posts) - maybe I've lost it as a writer? Maybe I ran out of stories and everyone knows it? Maybe they just don't want to buy stuff these days. Not sure. My wife says I just haven't found my niche yet.

But I plow on, with fifteen projects going, and three in the process of change - two being put into 6 X 9 format, one being taken back out of it. I've been stuck on that alone for several weeks, though I've done a little writing too. One of the projects deals with early Puritans, my ancestors for the most part, and the unfortunate fate of the Wampanoag in Massachusetts. Another deals with the pioneers who came west into the prairie, ultimately ending up in Council Bluffs.

Not that I expect you to care. I've put some of my ideas here but since I've always put some stories on this site, and hope you come back, I will keep bringing you back, the best I can. For those of you in the esl world, try wiki people readers. It's a site for esl activities, my own kind of site, that you might enjoy.

Take care and stay in touch!

edit me

I've been somewhat absorbed in the true stories of ancestors or likely-ancestors, since my lineage is not really clear, and in that sense, there is infinite work to do. The more you learn, the more there is to learn.

But writing non-fiction is a lot different from writing fiction, and I'll be the first to admit that I have a lot to learn in that sense too. I very quickly published two non-fiction accounts of early ancestors, Puritan Leveretts and 18th Century Leveretts; the first sold a few copies, as everyone is into Puritans even now, but the second sold almost zip. I was looking at my own copies and was horrified that I hadn't really been all that careful. In one, I misspelled the name of a relative, Erwin Otis, and in another, I had actually printed "Forward" instead of "Foreword." The very first word, misspelled! Careful spell-check found a few other errors as well.

I have always done my own copy editing, as I haven't found enough people to go through the with fine-tooth comb, so to speak. But during the pandemic I've had extra trouble. I've actually found more to write about, but I have less patience for going over the language. And as a result, I've actually published books with errors like the above.

It is my solemn vow to reform myself, and clean up my act.
